Understanding the Company Name Lookup

OnCorp's Company Name Lookup includes three NUANS® Pre-Searches that you can use to verify the existence of a Canadian company. You will receive easy-to-follow instructions to guide you through the search process.

The Company Name Lookup search will provide you with the following information:

Correct or legal name
Jurisdiction
Date of incorporation or registration
Some status information
Registration record in other provinces where applicable

Use the Company Name Lookup to:

Confirm the existence of a corporation
Confirm the name of a corporation
Check the date of incorporation or registration
Look up the jurisdiction of incorporation or registration
Prescreen names for name availability

Quick Tips
* Do not include the legal element or similar type organization identifier in the search phrase. (ie, Limited, Incorporated, Corporation, Company, Association, Partnership, etc.)

* Search the key word only when it is highly distinctive. Search the key word and the next word or two in the name when the key word is general or common.

* Enclose the search phrase in quotations to retrieve only matches with the exact word order pattern (eg. “GENERAL CASE”).

* Use the * wildcard on stemmed words to retrieve matches that include variations of the term (eg. CANAD* for CANADA and CANADIAN).

* Search variations of initials by using the formula below:(abc) | (“a b c”)

The NUANS™ Pre-Search database is owned and administered by Industry Canada. It contains all corporate, business, firm or trade names and trademarks registered in Canada. It does not include names from Quebec or non-corporate names from British Columbia.
